An example of a country index is the Brazilian Corporate Disclosure Index (BCDI) (Lopes and de Alencar 2010).
Lopes and de Alencar (2010)-who created the BCDI, the Brazilian Corporate Disclosure Index (see Sect. 4.3)-estimated models regressing the BCDI against a number of variables.
An increase of one point in the BCDI relates to a decrease of 14 basis points in this cost.
This relationship is more pronounced for firms that receive less attention from analysts and have dispersed ownership structures: an increase of one point in the BCDI is associated with reductions in the cost of capital of 26 basis points (for firms with less coverage) and of 27 (for firms with dispersed ownership).
